The set of activities which allow human beings to spend their free time having fun, temporarily avoiding their worries, is known as entertainment.
El entretenimiento forma parte de la amplia familia del ocio y se ha convertido en un sector floreciente de la actividad económica, especialmente a través de los parques temáticos y de atracciones, los medios de comunicación y las industrias del cine, la música, los videojuegos y el deporte.	Entertainment forms part of the large subdivision of leisure and has become a flourishing sector for economic activity, particularly through theme parks and attractions, the media, and the cinematic, music, video games and sports industries.

Comenzó a utilizarse en Europa a finales del siglo xv en relación con la acción financiera de desviar en beneficio propio bienes ajenos.	It began to be used in Europe in the late 15th Century in relation to the financial action of diverting property of others for personal gain.
Con posterioridad, tal acepción dio paso a la de «desviar la atención» en general, asociándose luego a la idea de placer y de ocio.	Subsequently, this meaning gave way to 'diverting attention' in general, later being associated with the idea of pleasure and leisure.

In 1662, the French philosopher Blaise Pascal devised a renowned study on entertainment which was published in 1670 in his 'Thoughts', developing the conflicting idea that it is necessary for man to be distracted and, therefore, deviate from the essential or we can make use of it in accordance as well.
