Deshi is a desktop app from TM-Town that tells us your expertise when you don't have work to upload.

Your work as a translator demonstrates your expertise. But what if you don't have work you can upload directly? You lose that ability to show future clients where you truly excel. Not anymore. Deshi is able to analyze the TMs you aren't able to upload to TM-Town, giving you the well earned credit you deserve in those fields of expertise.

No Need to Upload TMs.

That's right. Your TMs remain secure on your desktop. Deshi analyzes your work offline and allows you to freely redact any sensitive terms in the process. Deshi then creates a synopsis .town file which you can upload to TM-Town and get full credit for your work.

So You Can Be Found By Better Clients

Our goal at TM-Town is to introduce you to clients who need work in your area of expertise. We do this with our translator search engine, Nakōdo. The file Deshi creates works hand-in-hand with Nakōdo, ensuring you get found for jobs you'd be perfect for.

How it works

Download the desktop application. (Reference the installation video guides below)
Load a translation memory (TM) file into the desktop application and your TM file will be analyzed offline.
The desktop application creates a synopsis file which is just a plain text file with the file extension “.town”.
Load the file into your TM-Town account. This allows you to get credit in your profile for your work and the potential to be discovered in TM-Town’s Nakōdo search engine based on the content of your work. No aligned translation units or full segments are sent to TM-Town.

Redacting Confidential Information

TM-Town's desktop application also comes with a feature which allows you to redact confidential terms. This feature is currently only recommended if your translation memory file has less than 1,000 segments.

Windows Installation Instructions

Supports Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10

*This step is necessary for Windows 8, 8.1, and 10* You first need to download and install an application called Shoes which will help the TM-Town application run
Download the Windows package above
Note: Chrome may warn that the download is potentially dangerous - click the arrow and choose 'Keep'.
Unzip the download and double click the .exe
Wait until the install finishes completely
Note: A black box will open, this is part of the install process. Do not close this window. It will close by itself after it finishes installing in 2-3 minutes.
Right-click the 'Shoes' shortcut on the Desktop and delete it.

**Known bug**
For Windows users the application may crash when analyzing a large file when the progress meter reaches 100%. To avoid this issue it is necessary to first analyze a small TM file upon opening the application (before you analyze your larger file). Here is a sample small TM file that you can use to workaround this bug. Upon opening the TM-Town desktop application first analyze the aforementioned sample TM file before analyzing your larger TM file and you will not experience this issue.

OS X Installation Instructions

Supports OS X 10.9+

Download the OS X package above
Unzip the download and double click 'TM-Town Desktop Application 1.1.0.app'
Note: You will be warned it is from an unidentified developer and you will need to open your security preferences and allow the app to be opened.
Upon double clicking the app a console window will open, you can safely close this by clicking the red close button.

Linux Installation Instructions

Download the Linux package that matches your operating system (i686 for 32-bit systems and x86_64 for 64-bit systems)
Open the Terminal and change directory to the folder where the downloaded file is saved
$ cd Downloads
Mark the file as executable with the chmod command
$ chmod +x tm-town-desktop-2.1.0-x86_64.run
Execute the file in the terminal
$ ./tm-town-desktop-2.1.0-x86_64.run
