International law is sometimes divided into the sub-disciplines of International Public Law and International Private Law. According to this distinction, International Public Law concerns the relationships between sovereign states and between these and international public organisations, while International Private Law is concerned with relationships between the Italian state and private foreign citizens or with those between Italian citizens and foreign states or international organisations.
