恣意性	Arbitrariness
ソシュールは、「能記」(signifiant)と「所記」（signifié）という2つの概念（シニフィアンとシニフィエ）を用いて、言語記号の音声・形態とその意味との間には必然的な関係性はないという言語記号の恣意性を説いた。	Saussure explained that in using the two concepts of signifiant (signifier) and signifie (signified), the sound/form of a linguistic sign and its meaning don't have an inevitable relationship.
