Se conoce como entretenimiento al conjunto de actividades que permite a los seres humanos emplear su tiempo libre para divertirse, evadiendo temporalmente sus preocupaciones.	Entertainment is known as the set of activities that allows humans to use their free time to have fun, temporarily evading their concerns.
El entretenimiento forma parte de la amplia familia del ocio y se ha convertido en un sector floreciente de la actividad económica, especialmente a través de los parques temáticos y de atracciones, los medios de comunicación y las industrias del cine, la música, los videojuegos y el deporte.	Entertainment is part of the extended family leisure and it has become in a flourishing sector of the economic activity, especially through theme and amusement parks, media, the film industries, music, video games, and sports.
El término «entretenimiento» es de origen latino.	The term "entertainment" is of Latin origin.
Comenzó a utilizarse en Europa a finales del siglo xv en relación con la acción financiera de desviar en beneficio propio bienes ajenos.	It began to be used in Europe at the end of the 15th century in relation with the financial action of diverting other's goods for own benefits.
Con posterioridad, tal acepción dio paso a la de «desviar la atención» en general, asociándose luego a la idea de placer y de ocio.	Subsequently, such acceptance gave way to "diverting attention" in general, then associating to the idea of pleasure and leisure.
En 1662, el filósofo francés Blaise Pascal elaboró un reputado estudio sobre el entretenimiento que fue publicado en 1670 en sus «Pensamientos», desarrollando la idea contradictoria de que es necesario que el hombre se distraiga y, por lo tanto, se aparte de lo esencial o también lo podemos utilizar de acuerdo.	In 1662, the French philosopher Blaise Pascal elaborated a reputed study about entertainment that was released in 1670 in his "Thoughts", developing the contradictory idea that it is necessary for men to distract and, therefore, depart from the essentials or we can also use it accordingly.
