Clothing played a large role in Renaissance society, as clothing in the Renaissance was all about defining and showing off one's social status. |
Germanic, Italian and French fashions heavily influenced the rest of Europe in the period. |
Clothing was one of the main ways that the wealthy displayed their wealth to the world, and so it was the wealthy that set the fashions and trends that were to be followed. |
Because of the great difference in wealth and class in Renaissance Europe there are several different fashions, ranging from what the wealthiest would wear to what peasants might wear. |
Because of the ever-changing times of the Renaissance, fashions also changed more rapidly in this era than in eras before it. |
The wealthy displayed their wealth by wearing expensive fabrics such as silk, brocade, velvet, and cotton (Cotton was at this time in history kind of hard to come by in and was thus a 'wealthy' fabric). |
Furs were also popular among those who could afford them, and oftentimes furs were used by the wealthy as lining on the inside of their garments. |
Darker colors were the fashion as elaborate embroidery and jewels were often sewn into the fabrics, and dark colors were able to show those features off more. |
For the wealthy, style was much more important than function. |

Ever since Pierre-Simon Laplace envisioned the Hypothetical "Laplace's Demon" in 1814, an entity with infinite computing power that knows the exact location and velocity of every particle in the universe, there has been speculation that if one had such abilities, the past, present, and future of the universe can be predicted. |
However, there are limits to even this kind of knowledge, and it may very well be impossible for mankind to ever find the much sought-after "Theory of Everything". |
Does Laplace's Demon hold proof of Predestination? |
Could it even exist? | Ele poderia existir? |
We will examine these questions shortly. | Vamos examinar essas questões rapidamente. |
Let us assume, for one moment, that Laplace's Demon not only could exist, but it is real. |
The entity is sitting in a laboratory, doing computations, and feeding scientists data about the future of the universe. |
This scenario could be thought of as absolute proof that free will is an illusion, and that predestination rules the universe. |
As the Demon simulates particles ricocheting off of each other, forming atoms, cooling down, then gradually forming stars several billion years ago, it watches matter spin, gravity attract material; Earth forms, then life forms, then Humans slowly evolve, it predicts the chemical reactions going on inside our brains, it knows what we will do, what we will think, and what we will feel. |
For the processes of our brain are no different, no less certain than the boiling of water or the constant flickering of minute switches in the circuitry of a computer. |
Neurons fire, some adrenaline is released there, some dopamine here, and you get a human thought. |
What we perceive as free will is merely routine chemical processes occurring within our brains, and we are no more than clumps of matter floating around in the universe like the coldest space rock, as time moves only forward, and the universe expands outward. |
and nothing- nothing is uncertain in the mind of the Demon. | e nada-nada é incerto na mente do Demônio. |

In this field, a professional practitioner or researcher is called a psychologist and can be classified as a social, behavioral, or cognitive scientist. |
Psychologists attempt to understand the role of mental functions in individual and social behavior, while also exploring the physiological and biological processes that underlie cognitive functions and behaviors. |
Psychologists explore concepts such as perception, cognition, attention, emotion, intelligence, phenomenology, motivation, brain functioning, personality, behavior, and interpersonal relationships, including psychological resilience, family resilience, and other areas. |
Psychologists of diverse orientations also consider the unconscious mind. |
Psychologists employ empirical methods to infer causal and correlational relationships between psychosocial variables. |
In addition, or in opposition, to employing empirical and deductive methods, some—especially clinical and counseling psychologists—at times rely upon symbolic interpretation and other inductive techniques. |
Psychology has been described as a "hub science", with psychological findings linking to research and perspectives from the social sciences, natural sciences, medicine, humanities, and philosophy. |

Music is a supporting component of many kinds of entertainment and most kinds of performance. |
For example, it is used to enhance storytelling, it is indispensable in dance and opera, and is usually incorporated into dramatic film or theatre productions. |
Music is also a universal and popular type of entertainment on its own, constituting an entire performance such as when concerts are given. |
Depending on the rhythm, instrument, performance and style, music is divided into many genres, such as classical, jazz, folk, rock, pop music or traditional. |
Since the 20th century, performed music, once available only to those who could pay for the performers, has been available cheaply to individuals by the entertainment industry which broadcasts it or pre-records it for sale. |
The wide variety of musical performances, whether or not they are artificially amplified, all provide entertainment irrespective of whether the performance is from soloists, choral or orchestral groups, or ensemble. |
Live performances use specialized venues, which might be small or large; indoors or outdoors; free or expensive. |
The audiences have different expectations of the performers as well as of their own role in the performance. |
For example, some audiences expect to listen silently and are entertained by the excellence of the music, its rendition or its interpretation. |
Other audiences of live performances are entertained by the ambience and the chance to participate. |
Even more listeners are entertained by pre-recorded music and listen privately. |

The Lord of the Flies contains many examples of symbolism which Golding has incorporated to show a deeper level to the main, mostly straightforward, storyline that reveals his thoughts on the nature of humanity and evil. |
Below are some of the main symbols used in the book, but there are plenty more for you to discover yourself. |
Among such symbols may be included such small or natural seeming events like the coral reef, (Submarine warfare, surrounding of Britain by German U-boats?) or the "great fire", which may represent the first world war, ("We shall never commit to this savagery again"). |
Blood is another symbol Golding uses extensively, although what he uses it for is open to interpretation. | O sangue é outro símbolo que Golding usa extensamente, embora o uso que faça dele esteja aberto a interpretações. |
The different styles of leadership shown by Jack and Ralph symbolize democracy and dictatorship, much like as depicted in George Orwell's Animal Farm where he used pigs to symbolize the USSR's communist leaders. |
The imaginary beast that frightens all the boys stands for the primal instinct of savagery that exists within all human beings. |
The boys are afraid of the beast, but only Simon reaches the realization that they fear the beast because it exists within each of them. |
As the boys grow more savage, their belief in the beast grows stronger. |
By the end of the novel, the boys are leaving it sacrifices and treating it as a totemic god. |
The boys’ behavior is what brings the beast into existence, so the more savagely the boys act, the more real the beast seems to become. |
The boys "become" the beast when they kill Simon. |
Golding describes the savages' behavior as animal like; the savages dropped their spears (man's tool) and "screamed, struck, bit, tore. There were no words, and no movements but the tearing of teeth and claws." |
